Blood tuning

What blood tuning means

A routine blood panel at a statutory or private physician usually checks only basic values and neglects prevention and nutrient supply. Blood tuning goes well beyond that. One of the best-known pioneers of blood tuning was my highly regarded colleague Dr. Ulrich Strunz. We continue his philosophy and have added important parameters to blood tuning that must not be missing today. A value within the reference range does not yet mean that it is appropriate for your situation. When discussing the laboratory results, we therefore do not go by the laboratory’s normal values, but by optimal values.

What is reviewed

Which laboratory values are useful is decided by Dr. Hierl together with you in a personal consultation. Typical building blocks that can be combined individually:

  • Basic values: blood count, kidney and liver tests, blood glucose and blood lipids
  • Vitamins, amino acids and minerals in whole blood
  • Inflammation markers that are even more precise than hsCRP
  • Hormones and neurotransmitters
  • Special values for heart and vascular health
  • Gut microbiome and gut barrier, metabolome and leaky-gut check
  • MCAS parameters
  • Autoantibodies and Long COVID special diagnostics
  • Mitochondrial analysis (BHI and more)
  • Toxin check, analyses of toxic substances
  • Food intolerances (IMUPRO)
  • Parasite and pathogen diagnostics

When an extended analysis may be useful

Typical reasons include persistent fatigue without a clear cause, the wish for prevention beyond the standard blood panel, athletic load with questions about optimising performance, or planning an infusion or micronutrient therapy.

Procedure

The sequence is fixed: first measure, then adjust, then measure again.

  • Consultation on symptoms, medicines, prior conditions and the clinical question
  • Blood draw in the practice; fasting is best
  • Results discussion with interpretation of the values
  • Targeted measures such as nutrition, micronutrients, further diagnostics or therapy
  • Follow-up measurement after a certain interval to check whether the values have improved

Laboratory costs depend on the scope of the examinations and can only be estimated approximately. Statutory health insurers do not reimburse extended laboratory profiles at all; private tariffs depend on your contract.
